Brandi Kist joins the department of athletics as the first head field hockey coach in Queens history.

Kist comes to the Royals after serving as head coach of the Appalachian State University field hockey program. After holding the assistant coach position in the fall of 2005, she was promoted to the role of head coach which she held for eight seasons.

Before joining the Mountaineers, Kist spent time as a volunteer goalie coach at St. Louis University during the spring of 2005. She also was a graduate assistant coach at Lindenwood University from 2003-2005. Additionally, Kist has worked with the University of Pennsylvania and Ursinus College teams.

Kist also has United States Field Hockey coaching experience having been an assistant coach for the South Region High Performance Team during the 2009, 2010, and 2011 summers. She has also served as a coach and selector for the USFHA Futures Program, and has USFHA Level 2 Coaching accreditation.

Prior to becoming a coach, Kist was a field hockey player at the University of Pennsylvania from 1999-2002. Following her junior season Kist was named Most Improved Player after starting in every game, and she went on to earn team captain honors her senior season.

Kist was also a member of the US Field Hockey High Performance Program, and played in the New South Wales Metro League Women’s Division in Australia.

Kist holds a degree in classical studies with a concentration in civilization from the University of Pennsylvania. She also has a master’s degree in sport management from Lindenwood.

Laura Malinoski joins the Royals from Appalachian State University where she recently completed a great four-year career as a student-athlete.
 
"I am very excited to add Laura to our staff," said Coach Kist. "Her enthusiasm and energy is just what we need to continue to build our championship program. Her educational background and experience will be an asset to growing the Royals field hockey program, maintaining high standards both on the field and in the classroom, and serving our community as is the Queens way. She is the perfect fit for us and I look forward to getting her started."
 
Malinoski began her collegiate career at Ball State, starting in 20 games to rank second on the team in goals and assists. Additionally, she was ranked sixth in the nation in defensive saves. Following one season with the Cardinals, Malinoski transferred to Appalachian State where she was voted team captain during her junior and senior seasons, starting in 52 of 57 games played as a Mountaineer. In 2013, she was selected to the U.S. Field Hockey South Region training team. Outside of field hockey, Malinoski was a member of SAAC, Colleges against Cancer and Corey's Ride.

"I am very excited to work at a university that has established academic and athletic excellence. I am privileged to work with my former coach and I can't wait to get started."
 
Malinoski graduated from Appalachian State this month with a degree in history with social studies education licensure.
